Welcome to the Pallister Park Year 3 Page
Hi everyone and welcome to Year 3
Hello children, welcome back! We have another exciting topic planned for this term titled Predator. We will be animal experts at the end of it!
In English, we will be reading a book, Little Foxes by one of our favourite authors, Michael, Morpurgo. It is a story about a baby boy abandoned on the steps of a police station without any family or friends. He then makes friends with lots of animals and cares for them. We may need some tissues at the ready for this book as there are some very sad parts.
We will also be caring for animals, in particular, birds. We will be designing and making our very own bird feeders to hang on the trees outside. Using our brand new binoculars, we will be able to keep a look out and see what types of birds visit our field.
Mr Leggott is keen to make some other habitats too for all our nocturnal visitors!
Mrs Cacioppo will be taking groups to do some sketching and painting using watercolours whilst Miss Brown and Mr Leggott will be researching facts about all the animals that appear in the book.
January is the Big Birdwatch Month. We will have our binoculars at the ready!
In Science, we will be looking at Food chains and Fossils, as you are aware, this is Miss Brown’s favourite topic…ever!
is an interactive way to improve times table skills and mental maths.
Last term, we read the story of The Iron Man by Ted Hughes and wrote our own versions using Talk for Writing. These stories were so good that we wanted to share them with you all.
Once children had written their versions, they made sure lots of adjectives were used to make them more exciting. They then spent time in the Quiet Room with Miss McCarthy reading them. We called this the Recording Practice Studio.
Reading with expression isn't easy especially when you have an ipad recording in front of you. This five minute read through practice was perfect.
Children then moved into the real Recording Studio that was situated in the other Quiet Room.
Miss Brown then had the opportunity to hear each story being read by the author and managed to record them on her ipad.
All children and Year 3 staff thoroughly enjoyed this activity and we will upload them in our school zone for you to enjoy listening to them too. We must warn you though, some of them are very scary!
Homework will be given out every Friday and will be linked to the week's work. This will be organised so that children will be able to access it independently and it will consolidate their learning. Please hand this homework in before the following Friday.
If you have mislaid your homework or need help, please ask a member of the staff from the Year 3 team and we will help you or give you a replacement copy.
We are going to arrange a trip to visit some wildlife at a very special place.
More details to follow
We will also be doing lots of bird watching and research using our new binoculars.
