Pallister Park Primary School

Writing

At Pallister Park Primary, we believe that a high-quality and purposeful writing curriculum offers our children a strong foundation for future success.

We provide a clear teaching sequence which builds upon prior knowledge and derives from a heritage of interesting, engaging and vocabulary-rich texts.  Our bespoke curriculum ensures that the teaching sequence provides children with the familiarity and clarity they need to focus on creative and unique ideas whilst building upon the basic skills which encourage development.

By creating a range of meaningful writing opportunities, across a broad range of genres, children at Pallister Park develop a love of writing which extends beyond the classroom and inspires a sense of pride and achievement.

Approach

Our writing curriculum is organised to ensure that children at Pallister Park Primary have the necessary skills to develop their writing in the contexts of both fiction, non-fiction and poetry. A high-quality reading spine alongside digital resources provides our children with the stimulus they need to engage in exciting and thought-provoking tasks.

Children study models of excellence, plan independently and complete genre specific SPaG activities before entering the writing cycle.  Shared writing develops opportunities for collaborative ideas before children are able to edit their work accordingly and complete a published piece of work.  Building upon this familiar structure allows the children to develop in their writing as they move through school.

Impact

At Pallister Park, our children will be confident, independent writers who enjoy the subject and write for a range of different purposes.  They will recognise the importance of writing in underpinning their chances for future success and develop approaches to creative thinking.
