Autumn 1 – Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

In Nursery 1 we start the year by finding out about you and your family. We explore what it means to be a good friend, share our first favourite five story “Where’s spot?”, look out for the first signs of Autumn and get crafty for Halloween.

Autumn 2 – Dingle, Dangle Scarecrow

This half term we will find out about a curious, little owl in the story “Wow said the Owl” who will help us to learn our colours. We will meet and get up close to some real life owls! We will learn about bonfire night and also have lots of fun with Nursery Rhymes. At the end of this term we will enjoy lots of magical Christmas activities, including our Families visiting to do some festive crafts, meeting Santa and watching a show with one of his elves!

Spring 1 – Here we go round the mulberry bush
During the winter months the children will be exploring seasonal changes in winter, asking what clothes we need to wear in the colder months and finding out about animals that live in colder climates. We begin to explore healthy eating and find out which foods are good for us and those that are treats. Also, through stories and activities, we will explore those people who we love and those that love us.

Spring 2 – Mary had a little lamb.
The children will experience dressing up with the whole school for World Book Day and we find out what the children’s favourite bedtime stories are. Nursery 1 learn about another favourite five book “That’s not my dinosaur”. We celebrate Mother’s Day, begin to explore the features of springtime and get crafty again in time for Easter.

Summer 1 – I can sing a rainbow
Over the first summer half term we get familiar with another of our favourite five stories “Dear Zoo”, enjoy traditional tales and have a visit from a fairy tale character. We also enjoy planting seeds, watching them grow and taking care of them.

Summer 2 – The sun has got his hat on 
As the weather gets warmer, the children will be exploring what minibeasts live in our garden and have fun singing, dancing and enjoying stories all about lots of little creepy crawlies. We find out about the seaside and what fun we can have there, look at the creatures that live there and have lots of fun down on the farm.

The first thing we do in Nursery is get to know you and your family, we meet the mood monsters, enjoy a relaxing yoga class, learn about a mysterious creature that lives in the woods, look at out for the first signs of Autumn and learn a story about a witch for Halloween!

Autumn 2 – Dingle, Dangle Scarecrow
As we approach the celebration season we will learn about bonfire night and Diwali, explore what our super power is, we learn about Nursery Rhymes, learn one of favourite five stories about a bear! We ask the question ‘who are Mary and Joseph?’, and finally celebrate Christmas including our Families visiting to do some fantastic crafts!

Nursery learn about another favourite five book about three bears, we celebrate Mother’s Day, begin to explore the features of spring time and learn all about Easter.

Summer 1 – I can sing a rainbow
Over the first summer half term we learn about colours, explore the celebration of Eid, we ask ‘what does King Charles look like?’ Next, we look at Dinsosaurs, read a story about a gingerbread man, look at what lives on a farm and enjoy planting seeds and watching them grow.

Summer 2 – The sun has got his hat on 
As the weather gets warmer, the children will be exploring what minibeasts live in our garden, learn all about pirates, we look at the season of Summer. We find out about the seaside and look at the creatures that live there, we explore underwater fantasy worlds and finish our year by learning about the circus!

We have a borrow box that is available for you and your child to borrow books from school. We encourage reading and sharing books as often as possible.
